Chapter 36: A Letter from the Past
The two of them spent three days to return to Locke’s hometown, which was located in the northernmost part of the continent.
Seeing the giant steel dragon, the soldiers did not stop them. They knew that this was the High Priest’s seventh catastrophe, so it was most likely someone from the Dunmei Kingdom.
Locke gradually shrunk the body of the steel dragon as he landed in front of his house. As soon as he landed, Locke’s butler was waiting for him outside the door.
“It’s been a while, Young Master! I’ve been waiting for you. The rumors about you in the Donmei Kingdom have already spread to Reynolds City from so far away. Master has been looking forward to seeing you for a long time! Would you like to take a shower and change now, or…?”
Caspar had watched Locke grow up, so he was extremely fond of him.
“It’s great to see you after such a long time, Caspar! Do you know where Princess Vicki is now?”
Caspar immediately pointed in the direction of the backyard.
“Phew! I’d better go greet my father first!”
Seeing that Locke intended to avoid Princess Vicki, Caspar could not help but smile. When they arrived at Reynolds Benson’s room they found him busy at the table. He looked up and saw Locke and Clifford.
He immediately stopped what he was doing and stood up to greet them. “The king’s chief mage, Sir Clifford! Thank you so much for guiding and teaching Locke!”
“Earl Reynolds Benson, you must be joking! Locke is not interested in my knowledge! He is now an excellent Dragon Knight mage, and he has completed several difficult missions with minimal damage. He is already an outstanding captain of the Special Forces!”
After everyone sat down, Benson immediately poured Clifford a cup of tea.
“Sir Clifford, I’ve heard that you’re very knowledgeable. Could you discuss some topics on magic with me today?”
Hearing this, Locke quickly escaped from the room.
Seeing Locke leave, Benson laughed. “Looks like Locke is still the same. This child used to hate academia. I didn’t expect him to still be like this!”
After hearing Locks’s father’s words, Clifford could not help but praise, “During the time I spent with Locke, I actually did not spend much effort teaching him anything! He learnt most of the things himself. He has a strong will and a smart brain. Under normal circumstances, I would only impart some magical knowledge that one could not learn from books to him! However, when I share too much, he will fall asleep. Despite everything, he’s learnt a lot and it’s a truly remarkable feat!”
Upon hearing Clifford’s words, Benson could not help but laugh. “Thank you so much, Sir Clifford! When Locke was young, he was always eager to impart knowledge to his younger siblings. However, after that incident with Niederhogg, the Black Dragon of Despair, my wife and the other children all died. From then on, Locke’s personality changed. He would doze off no matter what he heard! So, after all these years, I didn’t force him to change! But at this stage, I have a feeling he intends to seek revenge for his family! So if you have the time, please take care of Locke and make him give up on this idea!”
Hearing this, Clifford finally understood Benson’s true motive.
“My family also died because of Niederhogg, and I have always carried this desire for revenge. However, as my knowledge increased, I gave up on these delusions as I got older. I think one day Locke will give up on this idea and accept it!”
Upon hearing this, Benson immediately stood up and bowed deeply to Clifford.
He did not stop Benson. As Locke’s mentor, Clifford was very concerned about him. Therefore, Clifford gladly accepted this bow.
Meanwhile, after Locke left his father’s room, he returned to his small manor. Since his mother, brother, and sister had all died by Niederhogg, Locke had been living here alone. Most importantly, he was worried that when he returned to this familiar place, he would be reminded of their gentle smiles. This was the pain that Locke had suffered throughout his life.
Back outside the manor, Locke stole a glance at Princess Vicki from across the wall, but was quickly discovered by Smythe. Locke greeted him and returned to his room. He walked to the office that he was familiar with. The room was filled with books.
These books were all ancient records, and they were all records of the six catastrophes. However, Loke’s had no recollection of all these information in his memory.
“What’s going on? Could I have lost a piece of memory when I took over this body?”
With the help of the system, these memories should not disappear. Hence, Locke opened the system and searched through the list. Soon, he found something!
“Part of the memory seal will automatically be removed after reaching the Magister level!”
“What’s this? How is this possible?”
System Notice: “Host’s memory is sealed by Reynolds Benson!”
After hearing the notification, Locke was no longer confused.
It seemed like this memory was an extremely important one. However, he couldn’t understand why he seemed to be missing an important part of his memory despite knowing there was something wrong with his parents.
Puzzled and confused by all sorts of questions within his mind, Locke flipped though the books around him. He flipped through the pages one by one. Hydra…
Over an hour later, Locke had flipped through all the books. In the last book, he discovered a shocking secret. It was a small piece of paper. It was filled with words, and they were all his notes.
‘I know that one day you would open this book, so I left this note for you. I know that one day in the future, my soul will collapse and die, and that will be when you arrive. I know you’ll be very confused when you see this, but how did I know you would appear here? That’s because there’s something special that I can’t tell you right now. One day, when we meet again, I will tell you everything! If you really want my wish to come true, then study the books in this room! The content within can help you defeat the six catastrophes in the future!
After reading it, the paper in his hand suddenly started to burn, and it turned into ashes.
Looking at this strange scene, Locke could not help but feel that his appearance in this world was not a coincidence!
