Chapter 40: Chapter Forty: Her Gamble Paid Off

Hua Tang didn’t know what he was going through. She only felt warm and relaxed.
Hua Tang smiled; when she married Mu Chi, she had no choice but to bet her life’s happiness. She didn’t expect her gamble to pay off! However, if she didn’t marry in her stead, this warmth would belong to Hua Ning…
Thinking of this, Hua Tang suddenly felt sad.
“Can I ask you something?” she asked in a low voice.
Fu Yong paused, “What is it?”
“I’m sorry.” Hua Tang turned around and looked at him. “If you find out I lied to you one day, will you forgive me?”
Fu Yong’s eyes narrowed as he silently looked at her. His austere face had no expression, but complicated emotions surged in his eyes.
Hua Tang suddenly realized that she had recently been meeting clients and studying their information. She hoped he didn’t misunderstand anything again!
“That’s not what I meant! I definitely won’t betray our marriage. What I meant was…” She paused, licked her lips, and whispered, “If you realize that I’m not worthy of your kindness one day, what will you do?”
Fu Yong looked at her for a long time and said nothing. He gently hugged her in his arms and stroked her long hair.
Hua Tang’s little face was pressed against his solid chest. She could hear his strong heartbeat, which gave her an infinite sense of security.
“Don’t think too much. Go to sleep.” Fu Yong’s voice was low and hoarse.
Hua Tang arranged herself comfortably, wrapped her arms around his waist, and softly closed her eyes.
Her sleep was lovely that night.
Fu Yong was used to sleeping alone and didn’t sleep well that night. His arm was used as a pillow for Hua Tang, and his entire body was her human bolster. He didn’t dare to move easily.
In the morning, he woke up in a daze and found Hua Tang wrapped around him like an octopus. A slender, fair leg was thrown across his waist, and two small hands wrapped around his neck.
He smiled. He didn’t have the heart to disturb her peaceful sleep. He gently moved her to the other side and carefully got off the bed to make breakfast.
When Hua Tang woke up and reached out beside her, the bed was empty, and her heart skipped a beat. Panicked, she ran out barefooted.
“You’re awake?” She was met with the sight of Fu Yong in an apron. “I didn’t wake you up because you were sleeping soundly. Wash your face and eat.”
Hua Tang looked at the breakfast on the table. Although it was just a simple boiled egg with milk and bread, it was a vast improvement from last time’s charred black and bitter mess. Seeing the food, all she could feel was bliss.
“Oh right, I have something to tell you,” Hua Tang said as she ate breakfast. “I’m going on a business trip tomorrow. I’ll be gone for about four to five days. Do take good care of yourself.”
Fu Yong’s expression was indifferent as he asked, “Where will you be heading?”
“To Haicheng City,” Hua Tang answered.
Fu Yong’s hand that was holding the bread stopped moving. “Your company has business all the way in Haicheng City?”
“Yes,” Hua Tang nodded. “The company executives gave me a mission to gain a foothold in the Haicheng City market. If I succeed, I’ll be promoted to sales executive!”
“Actually, I didn’t want to fight for anything. However, Yin Zhaoyang and Bi Ying’er had gone too far. If I want to protect myself, I can only work hard to climb up…And if I become a sales executive, my income will be three times that of now!”
She glanced at her husband and saw that he was still impassive.
Hua Tang gently held his hand and said with a smile, “When I have the money, we’ll take out a loan and get a bigger house. That way, we’ll live more comfortably! We won’t have to rent a house anymore. I’ll buy a cheap scooter. You can drive it around when you have nothing to do. You don’t have to squeeze on the bus!”
Fu Yong looked up at her. When Hua Tang said this, her beautiful big eyes were hopeful for the future.
A House? A Car? He could have as many of these things as he wanted. But there wouldn’t be a second one like her, this woman before him who only had eyes for him.
Fu Yong’s heart felt like a boulder weighed it down, and he couldn’t breathe properly. “Do you truly intend to take care of me forever?” he asked, patting her head.
“Yeah,” Hua Tang was mystified. “What’s wrong?”
Fu Yong said softly, “It’s always men who take care of women, not the other way around. Aren’t you afraid that people will laugh at you? I’ve been looking for a job recently, and I’ll find something soon. This family belongs to both of us. I will be responsible for you.”
Hua Tang smiled sweetly.
The next day, she went to Haicheng City with her colleague, Wu Qian.
As soon as the plane landed, Hua Tang called Mu Chi to let him know she had arrived safely.
“Hubby, I arrived safely in Haicheng City.” She smiled and looked around. They were walking on the bustling business street of Haicheng City, surrounded by skyscrapers. Wu Qian was busy taking photos everywhere.
“There’s someone else with you?” Fu Yong replied aloofly.
“Wu Qian is with me,” Hua Tang said softly. “She doesn’t want to return to the hotel, so we went sightseeing together. This is the first time we’ve been to Haicheng City; it’s a big city.”
Fu Yong chuckled. “You two take care and stay together. There are many fun places in Haicheng City. I’ll send you a few addresses, so you and your colleague can have a good look around.”
Hua Tang was surprised, “Hubby, you’ve been to Haicheng City before?”
