Chapter 7: There’s No Need To Liven Things Up For Me

After Qiao Mo disinfected the wound, she sprinkled some medicinal powder to stop the bleeding. Then, she quickly pinched Elder Jessie’s torn skin and pierced the needle and thread through it without even blinking. Fortunately, her results were outstanding in the past and she had practiced many times on the specimens, so her movements were quite skilled.
Shaman Evan narrowed his snake-like eyes and stared at Qiao Mo’s movements, his eyes flickering as if he was doubting the reason behind this action.
Aisha had started babbling and screaming away when Qiao Mo started on the first stitch. “I can’t believe you’re stitching my mother’s body as if she is a piece of animal skin! Harry, aren’t you going to stop her?”
Aisha bared her fangs at Qiao Mo to threaten her.
Qiao Mo did not have the time to pay any heed to her. This Elder Jessie had several cuts on her body and the wounds were unbearable to look at. She had to focus on treating the wounds.
Harry said, “She’s not holding a sharp bone, so she’s not sewing it like animal skin. I think she’s saving Elder Jessie.”
Everyone from the wolf tribe whispered amongst themselves. Although Qiao Mo was not holding onto a sharp bone, her actions were similar to the ones they usually did when sewing animal skin clothing. How could she save people like this?
Shaman Evan said coldly, “Even if she can’t save Elder Jessie, at least her body will look much more intact.”
Aisha threw herself at Shaman Evan again. “Shaman Evan! Please dance for my mother!”
“Pfft!” Qiao Mo, who was solemnly suturing the wounds for the patient, could not help but burst into laughter. “Don’t. There’s no need to liven things up for me.”
Qiao Mo made it seem as if the dance was meant to liven things up for her.
Evan nodded and then started to dance around Jessie’s body. Qiao Mo despised him for causing trouble.
Evan continued while saying, “I can only do my best with such injuries, but I’m not capable of healing them. However, I’ve thought of someone who might be able to heal your mother’s wounds.”
Aisha’s teary eyes lit up. “Who is it? I’ll invite him over immediately!”
Evan did a horse stance and his arms raised as if he was embracing the sky. “Ace!”
Aisha’s expression was first stunned, then turned into despair. “Dr. Ace from the fox tribe?”
An elderly who had just rushed over happened to hear this. He shook his head and said, “Ace is a greedy and cunning fellow. If we ask him to treat Elder Jessie, he will ask for a lot of food and resources. It’ll be something we wolf tribe cannot afford.”
Qiao Mo knew this old man. He was the old man who had advocated for Harry and her to become mates yesterday. It seemed that he had quite a high status in the wolf tribe.
Everyone else agreed. “Indeed. Although Ace became the most proficient in medical skills in the Myriad Beast Forest with his intelligence, he is really too greedy. The higher the status of the patient, the more things he’d ask from them.”
“There’s a shortage of food this winter. Many tribes have starved to death. If we supply Ace with a large amount of food, how are we going to survive the winter?”
“Right! We absolutely must not get involved with that greedy fellow!”
Someone whispered, “It’s fine if Elder Jessie can be cured, but Ace has a rule that he’ll collect the food first regardless if the patient can be cured. Elder Jessie has suffered such a serious injury that I doubt that even Ace would have much of a chance, right?”
These words sent a wave of despair through Aisha. She pleaded, “Is there no other way, Shaman Evan?”
Evan shook his head.
Aisha started to cry. The attitude of the tribesmen was clear in that they were unwilling to have everyone go all out to beg that greedy fox. Did that mean that her mother could only wait for death?
“It’s done,” At this moment, Qiao Mo stood up and took off her gloves before instructing Jessie’s three mates. “Carry her into the house. Do so steadily and lay her flat on the bed. If her body starts to heat up at night, call me anytime.”
The place instantly turned a little quieter.
Everyone looked at Elder Jessie, who was on the ground. They saw that Qiao Mo had finished stitching up her wounds, and there were a few white patches on them that didn’t look like animal skin.
One of Jessie’s partners reached his hand out, wanting to see what the white thing was, but Qiao Mo slapped his hand away. “Don’t touch it. That’s gauze. Before I say we can remove it, no one is allowed to touch it.”
Jessie’s three mates nodded blankly.
Harry took a step forward and asked, “It’s done? Qiao Mo hadn’t danced nor used any herbs. She had just done a few stitches into Elder Jessie’s body like she was sewing a piece of animal skin. Was that all?
Qiao Mo could not explain that the most important thing in dealing with such wounds was disinfecting and stopping the bleeding. As long as there were no infections or continual loss of blood, such injuries weren’t fatal.
It was just that the medical conditions here were too bad. Animals who lived in the wilderness would indeed have a high mortality rate if they were to experience tremendous blood loss as well as their wounds not getting disinfected.
“It’s done. She’s only unconscious now. Don’t let her move around even after she wakes up. I hope she can rest and recuperate in bed until I say that the gauze can be removed.”
Jessie’s mates nodded blankly.
Qiao Mo was angry. “Why are you in a daze? Carry her in!”
The three young wolf beastmen lifted Jessie’s head and feet, with one of them supporting her body. They threw an apologetic glance at Shaman Evan, who hadn’t finished his dance, and disappeared out of sight with Jessie in tow.
Evan awkwardly continued his dance for a little bit more before he stopped and explained, “Even if she’s not here, this result of this exorcism dance has already taken effect..”
