Chapter 8: The Army

The two of them got into the carriage. Ronald looked at Irene who had been looking out the window. It seemed that she had been holding it in for the past few days.
The carriage came to a steady stop. Irene looked at the military camp in front of her and her heart sank.
It had already been difficult for her to escape under his eyes, but now that the entire military camp was staring at her, she would not be able to escape even if she had wings.
Ronald held her hand and entered the military camp. The thousands of soldiers at the training grounds saluted her. “Good day, Madam.”
This “Madam” that resounded through the sky startled Irene. With such well-trained soldiers, it would not be possible to run away directly.
Irene swept her gaze across the soldiers at the training grounds. Ronald was indeed a wise and resourceful general. He arranged the troops in a very orderly manner.
Ronald led her through the crowd and entered the room. While walking to the desk, he said, “This is Croce’s military camp. Recently, they are preparing to start a war with Celt. The military situation is tense. I’m afraid I don’t have much time to accompany you. I hope you don’t mind, Madam.”
After a while, Ronald did not receive a reply. He turned around and saw little wife standing on a map.
Ronald walked over and hugged her from behind. “What are you looking at, Madam?”
Irene looked at the defensive map in front of her. After some thought, she analyzed, “Celt is easy to defend but hard to attack. Why must you attack Celt? Aren’t you asking for trouble?”
Ronald did not expect Irene to understand the defensive map and be able to analyze it, “Actually, our goal is not Celt, but rather Murcia, which is located behind Celt. Murcia is a rich kingdom, and Emperor Caesar’s methods are autocratic. The annual food import tax is not a small expenditure. Celt and Murcia has a marital relationship. If we can defeat Celt, the resistance to attacking the Messiah will be much smaller.”
“But why not cooperate with Celt?” Irene suggested a different idea.
Ronald no longer gave Irene muddled answers. Instead, he pulled her behind the desk and sat her down. “But Celt and Murcia have been friends for many years. How could it be so easy for Celt to cooperate with us in such a short time?”
Those who were involved in the matter were confused, while those who were watching from the sidelines were clear-headed. Irene continued to speak in an orderly manner, “Then take a guess to why Murcia chose to marry Celt at that time. Didn’t they choose Celt due to their geographical location, which in turn provided them a natural defensive barrier? On the other hand, Murcia is a kingdom with abundant resources, which must have attracted Celt’s attention for a very long time.”
Ronald was enlightened and overjoyed. He asked his subordinates to call the military advisor over to discuss countermeasures. He cupped Irene’s cheek and kissed her on the lips. “You really are my lucky star! Go out and explore the place on your own. I’ll go find you later.
The opportunity came. Irene smiled. “Okay.”
This was the first time Irene showed such a bright and beautiful smile in front of Ronald. Ronald was mesmerized. When he came back to his senses, the woman beside him had already disappeared.
Irene seemed to walk around casually, finding the right time to sneak into a room.
Looking at the armor hanging on the clothes hanger, Irene’s heart beat faster with joy. She cautiously looked toward the door. Spotting no movement, she ran to the clothes hanger and carefully took off the armor to wear it.
Irene looked at the loose armor on her body in front of the mirror and sighed helplessly.
It didn’t matter, that could work out. Ronald would not be done so soon, so all she had to do was to avoid the soldiers.
Irene went around to the back of the room and opened the back window. This should be the place where the soldiers usually went. They were all training in the front, and there was no one there.
Irene dragged the heavy armor and carefully jumped down from the window, closing the window again.
There shouldn’t be only one door in this camp, right? She remembered Marla had once told her that the camp usually had four doors, north, south, east, west, and west. One of the doors would have the weakest defense, so which door would that be here?
Irene felt her heart almost jump out of her chest. She carefully avoided the soldiers and walked along the walls of the camp, not meeting anyone along the way.
Ba-dum, ba-dum, ba-dum. Irene heard her heart beating louder and louder. She saw it. She saw a small door a dozen steps away from her. The door was closed and unguarded. Irene quickened her pace.
“The one in front! What are you doing?” Ronald’s angry roar came from behind.
