Chapter 37: Cleaning Weapons

Actually Ronald didn’t go out for a random stroll at all. He was called to the tent by Caesar.
There were only the two of them in the tent.
Caesar directly told the truth, “Ronald, Irene likes you, so as long as you are willing to join Murcia, I can discuss with the ministers and spare your life.”
Ronald didn’t say a word. Caesar sighed and waved his hand, “Go back and think about it.”
He called for the soldiers to send him back to the tent.
Irene ordered the men to take away the plates and snuggled in Ronald’s arms. “Don’t worry. I won’t let you stay here forever. I’ll definitely think of a way to get you out.”
Ronald rested his chin on Irene’s head. “Actually this isn’t bad at all. You can accompany me every day. It’s just that it’s a little difficult for me to move around and I have less freedom.”
Suddenly, a soldier called Irene’s name outside the tent. Irene withdrew from Ronald’s embrace and walked out of the tent. “What’s the matter?”
A few soldiers looked at her with serious expressions. “Princess, we have something to ask of Ronald. Please leave.”
Irene didn’t have time to stop him. The soldier brushed past her and pushed Ronald out in a short while. Irene stepped forward to stop him. “Where are you taking him?”
The soldier politely blocked Irene. “Princess, please don’t hinder us from carrying out our official duties. We are just following the rules.”
Irene couldn’t stop him, so she just followed him. The soldier glanced at Irene and shook his head. He still didn’t stop her and let her go.
The soldier brought Ronald to the armory. Rows and rows of armory shelves were neatly placed with all kinds of weapons like huge bookshelves. “Your mission today is to wipe these two rows of weapons clean.”
After saying that, he stood to the side, like a machine carrying out a mission, without the slightest bit of emotion.
Ronald did not resist. He picked up the basin in front of him and walked toward the armory shelves.
Irene stopped him and said to the soldier, “What right do you have to make him do this?”
The soldier looked into the distance without looking at Irene.
Irene wanted to argue, but Ronald grabbed her wrist. “Forget it. I’m a surrendered soldier. How can I do nothing in the tent and eat three meals a day? It’s just cleaning weapons. It’s not like I haven’t done it before.”
In Croce, he used to clean weapons with his soldiers.
Irene gave up. There was no need to make things difficult for the soldiers. They were not the ones who made the decisions.
Irene rolled up her sleeves and wiped the weapons with Ronald. Ronald immediately stopped her. “Don’t do this. You could get hurt.”
Irene didn’t let go. “I’ll be more careful. You won’t be hurt. With my help, it’ll make your workload lighter.” As she said that, she broke free from Ronald’s hand and began to wipe the weapons on her own.
Ronald knew that he could not stop her. With her by his side, it was indeed what he hoped for. So in the end, he only wiped the weapons in his hands while paying attention to Irene to prevent her from getting hurt.
The two of them worked together. Their efforts doubled and the time used was greatly reduced. After a while, they had finished cleaning all the weapons.
The soldiers wanted to escort Ronald back to the tent, but Irene did not follow them. She wanted to find her father and ask him what they were going to do with Ronald.
“Father!” Irene opened the curtain and saw that Caesar was not the only one inside. There were five or six ministers looking at her in unison.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know that you were discussing business.” She slowly lowered the curtain and left.
The soldier looked helplessly at Irene who had backed out. “Princess, I’ve already said that the king was discussing business with the ministers, but you didn’t believe me.”
Irene was also worried and confused. She only wanted to ask her father about his attitude toward Ronald. She thought that the soldier had just found an excuse to brush her off, so she rushed in rashly. She was too hasty.
