Chapter 30: Meng Ke’s Heart

Sleeping with Qin Feng?
Nannan’s request startled Meng Ke. She had no idea how to answer the question for a moment. She admitted that Qin Feng did change a great deal so that she could see a bit of hope in him, especially that pair of eyes, which used to be blurry and misty. They were flourishing with life. If she stared at him directly, she would be deeply attracted.
But that did not necessarily mean that Meng Ke was willing to trust Qin Feng completely. She had been too deeply stricken in the past for her to be sure whether he was just doing all of this to avoid getting divorced or not.
Deep in her heart, she was more or less unwilling to get close to Qin Feng. Therefore, she was not that interested in sharing the same bed with that man.
“Nannan, listen to me.” Qin Feng had obviously seen through Meng Ke. He was very saddened by that. They were a married couple, but they did not share the same room. In most cases, it meant the bad patch of a marriage relationship.
But he could understand Meng Ke. He laughed bitterly inside his heart as he rubbed Nannan’s head, smiling. “Daddy has picked up the habit of snoring these days, which I can’t change for now. Your mother is tired from work, and she needs to take a good rest during the night. Do you want Mommy to be disturbed when she is sleeping?”
“No, no way!” Nannan shook her head forcefully. She pursed her lips and was obviously disappointed. However, she turned to Meng Ke and looked at her with determination and expectation. “Mommy, we can wait until Daddy stops snoring, then we can all share one bed together, alright?”
“Alright!” Meng Ke nodded slightly and threw a quick look at Qin Feng, carrying Nannan back to the bedroom.
Once the door was closed, she flushed instantly. Her eyes were twinkling with disbelief. She just could not believe that the moment she caught Qin Feng’s eyes, she felt a heartbeat as if her whole soul was shivering. It was a strong sense of attraction, one that made her feel as if she were back to the time when she and Qin Feng first became a couple.
Outside the door in the living room, Qin Feng could not help but smile. He had caught the way Meng Ke reacted and could not help but think of the shy young girl he had met years ago.
Qin Feng was now confident enough to believe that Meng Ke was definitely going to change how she felt about him after today.
He went back to his bedroom and had a really good sleep in a cheerful mood.
….
Early the next morning…
The door of Qin Feng’s bedroom creaked open. Nannan, who was bare feet, tiptoed to Qin Feng’s side and pinched his face.
“Daddy, get up now,” Nannan urged him, but her voice was very small. She was trying not to wake up Meng Ke in the next room.
Qin Feng woke up and took Nannan in his arms, smiling. “I’m getting up!”
“Daddy!” Nannan was wide awake as her large eyes rolled about. “I haven’t eaten KFC for a long time. Can you take me to KFC for a sneaky meal?”
KFC?
Qin Feng frowned slightly. He didn’t think that it was a healthy menu for her. But as he thought of how much he owed his lovely daughter, he nodded and replied, “Sure, I’ll take you to KFC, but we should not eat too much deep-fried food. It’s not healthy.”
“I got it, Daddy!” Nannan kept tugging at Qin Feng’s arms. She just could not wait to be outside.
Qin Feng got up from the bed and dressed up. After Nannan freshened up, he could sense that Meng Ke was still in a deep sleep in the bedroom. He said something to Nannan and turned to the kitchen.
As far as he remembered, Meng Ke always had a simple breakfast. There would be slices of toast in the fridge, together with some eggs and milk. That was what she normally ate for breakfast.
He warmed the bread and milk, fried two eggs, and carried the tray. He was about to leave when he thought of something.
He got many medical materials from the pharmacy yesterday, and most of them had been made into a decoction by him. There were still a few ingredients left. Although the drink was not a proper—or even a harmful thing for mortals who did not practice—a small dose would probably help them get physically changed.
As he thought about this, Qin Feng warmed another cup of milk and found the remaining materials he bought from the day before, made two portions with small doses, and placed them respectively into two cups of milk.
Finished, he carried the tray and milk to the living room and placed one for Meng Ke on the table, giving the other to Nannan. He said with a small voice, “Nannan, drink the milk.”
“Ah?” Nannan blinked. She just could not get it. “But Daddy, doesn’t KFC serve milk too? Why drink it now?”
The little girl did not feel like drinking it. With her simple and straightforward mind, she did not understand why she had to do that.
Qin Feng thought for a while and explained, “I warmed too much milk for your mother, and she can’t drink it all. I don’t want her to think that I am wasting the food.”
“Do me a favor, please?” Qin Feng bent down and looked at Nannan with a begging look.
“Okay, I’ll drink it then!” Nannan nodded forcefully. She took over the milk and had a large gulp until the next second…
Pooh!
The girl spat out the rest of the milk after the sip she just took, almost bursting into tears.
“Daddy, has the milk expired? Why does it taste bitter?”
Nannan stuck out her tongue, looking rather miserable. But she looked very lovely.
“Eh…” Qin Feng was startled. The medical ingredients he just used could work with only water added, but it did taste really bitter. He had forgotten about this, hence the embarrassing situation now.
He was about to make an explanation when suddenly Meng Ke walked out of the bedroom drowsily. She had heard Nannan’s words just now, startling her awake. Immediately, she flew off the handle. “Can’t you tell if the milk has expired? Why did you give it to her?”
Meng Ke went to Nannan and asked concernedly, “Nannan, how are you feeling? Do you need to go to the hospital?”
She was really anxious. After Qin Feng gave up on himself, she had taken Nannan as everything in her life.
“Mommy, I’m fine, I was joking with Daddy. The milk is fine!” Nannan explained quickly and then took hold of Qin Feng’s hands, leading him outwards. “Mommy, Daddy is taking me to kindergarten today.”
“No way!” Meng Ke turned her down. She was not completely sure if Qin Feng had returned to normalcy. This seemingly small matter was a huge risk in her eyes. She rushed to the door and stopped them..
