At this point, Shang Lu was on the verge of collapsing from all the vomiting.
Holding his stomach with one hand, he glared at the Li Family standing in front of the front porch, thinking that they were kicking him out.
While he was still drafting what he would say to rebuke them, the iron gate behind him slid open again.
A gentle breeze blew across Shang Lu, and a luxurious motorcade rolled down the driveway outside of the gate and came into sight.
The first car slowly came to a stop. The chauffeur got off the car and trotted to the rear seat and bowed to open the car door. He placed one hand at the top of the frame to protect the passenger’s head and spoke deferentially, “Master, we’ve arrived at the Li Family.”
Shang Yu was here!
Li Guangming had gotten a phone call from Liuyun, Shang Yu’s right-hand man, moments before Shang Lu was pranked.
The Overlord of Nanyang had come in person today to offer an explanation for breaking off the engagement.
Despite being the richest man in Nanyang, Li Guangming had only met Shang Yu once.
That had been more than five years ago.
Years had gone by and Li Guangming was already in his fifties. But he still respected Shang Shaoyan a lot and feared him.
A long leg in black dress pants stepped out of the backseat first. Then, Shang Yu’s tall and slender body slowly came into view.
The man had a grim expression on his striking face. His lips were slightly pressed together, and his eyes were dark and inscrutable. Standing next to the car, he seemed to make the air more chilly.
For some inexplicable reason, Li Qiao sensed that he was in a bad mood the moment she laid eyes on him.
Shang Yu was still wearing a jet-black shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Three buttons below the collar were unbuttoned, which added the final touch to his serious yet untamed look.
His gaze penetrated through the crowd and easily landed on Li Qiao, who was standing next to Li Cheng.
Yet he turned his eyes away after a short second. He gestured to his chauffeur, who went to the trunk and took out multiple gift boxes.
Shang Lu resisted the urge to vomit and staggered to Shang Yu. He complained loudly and bitterly, “Big brother, they…”
Shang Yu remained expressionless. Nevertheless, he turned his head and stared at Shang Lu with his piercing eyes. His dark face forced Shang Lu to immediately shut up and gulp for air.
Li Guangming and Duan Shuyuan had already gone to the gate to welcome Shang Yu. It had been five years since they had last met. The underground Overlord of Nanyang might look more mature and restrained, but he was even more intimidating.
Shang Yu looked at Li Guangming and started a conversation. “Mr. Li, I’m sorry to bother you.”
His deep, soothing voice was captivating and intoxicating like a glass of fine wine.
“You’re welcome, Mr. Shang. We’re honored to have you as our guest. Let’s go inside please.”
Li Guangming was very polite to Shang Yu. One might even say he was too eager to please him.
His title as the richest man of Nanyang was nothing before the tycoon of the Emperor Yan Corporation, who held the reins of Nanyang in his hands.
Right now, Li Qiao was standing next to a pillar on the front porch. She gazed at Shang Yu, who walked by her, and caught a whiff of a heady tobacco smell.
Li Shaoquan and Li Qiao’s third brother both smoked. But neither of them smelled as good as he did.
Li Qiao turned her face away and flashed a silent smile. She followed the others and went back into the house.
Shang Lu, on the other hand, was left outside puking alone. Nobody cared about him.
…
The tension was thick in the living room.
Li Qiao was the last one to go through the door. The living room was usually spacious enough to jog in, yet it seemed particularly cramped because of Shang Yu’s presence.
He sat on the two-seater couch in the center of the room, legs crossed. His majestic bearing was powerful enough to dominate the room even when he wasn’t speaking.
Li Qiao looked around and saw that every couch was occupied. Her parents were sitting together, three brothers each took an armchair. The only seat not taken was the one next to Shang Yu.
That being the case, she stepped forward and sat down by Shang Yu’s side without hesitation. She even greeted him. “Hey, Master Yan.”
